Holding in the Company

The MTL Instruments Group plc (“MTL” or the “Company”) announces that it was notified on 21 July 2005 that on 20 July 2005 Standard Life Group acquired 272,027 ordinary shares in MTL and now has an interest in 925,000 shares, representing 4.9% of the issued share capital of the Company.

The shares are registered in the name of Vidacos Nominees.
